The Travel Diaries - The Maldives

So back in September William and I packed some bags up and jumped on a plane to the Maldives.

We have never been on a holiday quite so far away and quite so quiet.

We spent 10 days eating, sleeping, sunbathing and it was such an amazing time away!

Getting There

We booked our holiday through Virgin, and the travel included a flight to Sri Lanka, flight to Male and then a speedboat transfer to our island, which was Farukolhufushi Island and the resort was called Cinnamon Dhonveli

We chose to stay in an overwater bungalow as it was an experience that neither of us had ever experienced and was really well priced.

All of our food was included in the package, comprising of 3 cooked meals a day and cocktails in between. There was so much food to choose from and the staff were just to friendly I was sad to say goodbye!

From the reception you can book a wide selection of activities to keep you busy during your stay.

On the Island there are pool tables, table tennis and books to keep you busy.

We decided on snorkelling with the turtles and also a trip to see the dolphins. This was such an amazing experience as I had never seen dolphins in the wild before and we chose to go on a private tour, so William and I had a boat to ourselves. We saw so many dolphins and a few different specices of them. They come up really close to the boat and you can hear them if you listen really carefully!

The island also put on a party every couple of nights at a different part of the island each time. We were lucky that on our first night on the island, they party was on our beach, and 10 dollars got you unlimited cocktails and all the cheesy 90's music that you could wish for! We even saw a proposal happen!

Lots of Mojito's and dancing on the beach leads to a very hungover William!

I have never ever seen a beach as beautiful as this one. The sand is so soft and white, the water is so super clear and there are so many pretty fish to see. Even if I did get nibbled by one for getting too close to its reef home!

I worried a bit about the weather during our stay, as when I had been checking before had it had been showing as raining most days! But they weather turned out to be amazing, even if a little hot. We wore factor 50 and still managed to get burned. It rained a couple of times while we were there but they passed so quickly they were gone again as the island was so small. You could walk around the island in about 15-20 minutes, as we did most evenings!

I defiantly recommend visiting the Maldives. There are so many beautiful islands to choose from and really is such a beautiful place to completely chill out and relax! Xx
